“Go Live Your Life:” The Wade Hayes Story (So Far)
“Live each day like it’s your last” is a mantra that can be taken for granted at times, that is, until that’s the only choice you have.
Wade Hayes was given a five percent chance at survival after a stage four cancer diagnosis. In fact, doctors were on the precipice of putting him on comfort care.
Hayes wouldn’t let that be the end of his story. A story that, to that point, had included number one songs on country radio, countless performances and hours spent in writing rooms crafting his brand of country music that his fans had come to love.
Not only did he beat the disease, he took the mantra his doctor gave him, “go live your life,” to heart, with a song and album of the same name being released just four years after his diagnosis. As the 90s country resurgence began in the late 2010s, Hayes released two more albums and has continued to take the stage all over the country for fans looking to re-live country music’s glory days. In October 2011, country artist Wade Hayes was diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer that had spread to most of his liver, a small portion of his diaphragm and gall bladder, and his lymph nodes. Under the care of gastrointestinal oncologist Dr. Jordan Berlin and the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center care team, Wade, now 50, has survived his colon cancer – twice. And his story has become a part of his shows: The song “Go Live Your Life” is based on his oncologist’s words at the end of treatment. READ MORE
